Block Heater

89 F350 w/ 7.3 IDI. My block heater recently quit working. Does this thing have a fuse or do I need to replace the entire thing?

Thanks

there is no on board fuse to the block heater. it is powered by the house current and maybe you have a bad electrical cord. the cord will disconnect from the heating element and is replaceable. if the cord checks out ok, then you should replace the heating element, from international (its cheaper there). just tell them its for the international 7.3 litre engine and it fits into a soft plug port near the starter. dont forget to drain the coolant from the radiator and the block.

Male end of cord....

I have visited this problem too often. Usually it's been the cord end which is often flopping around in and exposed to the elements. Finally I put on a new male end and put a rubber sleave made from a section bike inner tube over the end. I cinched it tight against the cord above the plug with a wire tie. It is better protected now, I just slide the sleave up to get at the plug and down over when not in use. I also put the cord end back through the grill for a little more protection when not used.
