you misquote me. i like ford trucks. i despise chevy engines. but if i see a pretty ford truck that has a chevy engine its still a pretty ford truck. I'm not trying to start an argument but may I have some credentials as to what make Ken and Thom and you experts on Fords? Ive built and owned and wrenched on my fair share. In the 12 years since i started driving.
Don, you are new to the list, and we welcome you, and we want you to find a place here. But with comments about liking trucks even with ******* parts, and just 12 years driving experence, you may have to eat off the table on the back porch a while before you can take a seat at the main table. ;-)

Maybe if there was a FTE glossary page or something that gave descriptions for these names, initials, slang terms and things, (FE; FT; Highboy; etc.) it might benefit everyone. For a newbie to find the threads with these answers, it is almost impossible. Even if you look in the archives, the heading of the thread is usually no indication that the answer is in there. If they were listed in a glossary, they may be more readily accepted as "the last word" also. (Please, no offense meant to Thom or John. I trust you 2 guys completely!!) Also there are guys like me who may not own a particular item or even heard of such a thing, but like to learn about them anyway. I know Ken is very busy right now, but maybe I can sugguest it as a future idea. Dumb idea?

Don: You can have my place at the dinner table....I think we're having Pork Chops again. :-)
Kenny: I like the glossary idea; the good posts do tend to get buried. I also think that there are areas of interest which would benefit from a good tech article or two for all of you writer-types out there.

Thom, I can't believe that you are finished already, you have only had five, and you like the gravey so well. I know there's hot biscuits and apple butter coming.
I'll agree Kenny, an excellent suggestion.
I'll confess Don, we've been funning you.
Guy's DO NOT FORGET, FE = Ford Edsel ;-)

thank you gentlemen. sometimes i just have to be the devils advocate. yes im probably younger than most here (im 28) but i do have a deep abiding love for most things to come out of uncle henry's garage. i dont know anyones elses luck but mine has been bad with everything but fords and so help me nissans. but i do have a question. is MEL mercury edsel lincoln? ive never seen a 430 in an edsel.
Hey fellas. I got one more question about the FE. Now, John and Thom, you guys say FE stands for Ford Edsel. And I aint about to argue with you. But if ol' Henry named the engine after Edsel, why didn't he name it EF? Everybody knew the Edsel (car) would have a Ford mill, so why name the engine backwards? Just a thought.(Actually I'm just stirrin the pot!) Bill

I can neither confirm nor deny that statement....I'm sorry...can you repeat the question? ... Upon advice of counsel, I wish to plead my Fifth Amendment right to remain silent.

Here are a couple of edsel engine links I found.

Hope this helps.

Websites don't count, but otherwise Kenny, we had a perfectly good thread going based on pure supposition and now you had to interject some more info into the mix.

O.k., I'll agree that websites don't count, but those airbrushed engine pics sure do look like they came straight out of a Ford shop manual to me(he-he). Would you like some butter on that roll?

Don't give up Kenny, no matter how much obfuscation the gravy may pose! I'll admit that someone spent a heck of a lot of time "makin' up" the engine data on those websites. I will say that I found the history page interesting on the one. There was a timeline which referred to the Edsel prior to it being officially named. It was referred to simply as the "E-car" for "experimental" Perhaps the "E" in FE means experimental!

See.... I was only adding to the confusion the whole time. Kidding aside though Thom, I did find it interesting that Ford recognizes and even mentions on their own website, the club that those links I posted came from. Scroll all the way to the bottom. (Edsel Owners Club)
