Picked up my new Dan Carpenter bed (shipped via truck) for my 56 F100 last week, my brother welded it and my dad and I got it mocked up with the rear fenders and running boards on my truck.
it was cool to see the truck all "together" today , i took some pictures before we took it back apart for painting.
Looks like you will be on the street this spring! Good looking truck. There has been some discussion on different beds from time to time. If you could detail the steps you took to setup and install your Carpenter bed it would be of help to others. Photos are always appreciated. Thanks for sharing.
thanks for the compliments!
Mason, i have seen "bolt kits" in Mid Fifty's to bolt together the front corners of the bed. The original Ford bed was riveted on the front corners. I am not sure how well the back sill and panels could be bolted. I would check with some diffferent bed manufacturers to see if their kit can be bolted together. Welding is by far better and stronger. There really isnt much welding to do. It probably took us about 2 hours to get it all squared up and welded.
Mark, Something very tasty about yellow 56 cabs with grey fenders and beds. I thought it looked a bit strange, so I put a pic under " body work" in my gallery so you too can have a chuckle. Good looking project. Gavin
For Australian readers: The beds from Phil Dean in Brisbane are AWESOME. I just got an early F-1 bed from him. Curved stake pockets. Proper tailgate. All the feature lines and everything are perfect. $950 + shipping. Why try building one yourself ??
El cabron, you have one awesome lookng truck. I see you are using 2002 Mustang yellow. Is that Zinc yellow, color code B7?? i am using 98 mustang Chrome yellow, color code BZ. have you ever seen the 2 different color yellows up close? Are they much different? I ask becasue i am having a paint mis-match problem.
Thanks Mark, I don't know the paint code, I chose the color from a Sherwin swatch after seeing a stang on the Ford lot. I do think it was the zinc. It looks great on the truck in light and dark.
