The fellow I bought it from had a 302 and auto trans put in with side mounts from a '70 fairlane. I am looking for a 6 cyl rebuilt and manual trans like the one that would have come in the 64 F100. (whatever that is)

OK, a little mo info, First off you are looking for an I6 not a V6, and the 3spd was used for many years of that era.
You will need to look for a 223ci I6 engine. Finding one rebuilt may be another issue, because they are not sought after engines. Getting one rebuilt should be fairly easy.
CH: You might not be aware that '64 is a critical dividing line for the '61 - '66 Ford truck line.
The bodies look similar, but everything under the skin is radically different. This difference is important to know when it comes to planning upgrades or restorations.
In '65, Ford introduced (into the trucks) the twin I-beam suspension, as well as the FE engine. They retained the same dimensions for the front end, with minor differences all the way up to '79. This makes it easy to upgrade to later power steering and power disc brakes and other options using later trucks as donors.
However, before '65, Ford used the older engine mounting design and leaf front suspension for their light duty trucks. This doesn't make it impossible to put in later engines or install upgrades, but it is more difficult and requires more planning. It also usually involves specialty or fabricated components. Fortunately, there are enough folks here at FTE who have done some of these upgrades, and can help you make the best choices and avoid pitfalls.
The engines available prior to '65 for the light duty trucks were the 292 Y-block V-8, and the 223 in-line six. The engine mounting system was like the heavy duty system used in larger trucks today; the engine has one mount in the front underneath the crankshaft, and the other two are ears on either side of the bellhousing, down low.
Transmissions available included the light duty 3 speed, light duty 3 speed w/OD, heavy duty 4 speed with granny gear, and an automatic (C-3, I think, not sure.)
I hope his helps, and welcome to FTE.

IMO the easiest resolve for what you currently have would be to slip in a 240 or 300 six from a 65-up since they mount on the setup you currently have for the V8
Only a die hard Slickster would know the difference IMO, plus they are very good engines.

Um no they didn't make a front mount 300 to my knowledge. The guy says he has side mounts.
I have a 223 and 3 spd tranny you can have, if you want to come get it. As a matter of fact, the whole chassis has to go in a month or so, and it's all been rebuilt (the chassis, not the engine). The engine runs OK, but has a heavy tick, like a broken ring, or wrist pin bearing. I'd tear it down and rebuild it.
