If money didnt matter, i'd be wrenching on rigs, and own my own shop.
BUt in real life, i would like to end up on the oregon state patrol, current job that is disliked, Navy Recruiter, and a sad 3 years left doing it. I loved the navy until i got to this point, now i cant wait to get out.
I hate anything that takes me away from my family every day. I will never like my "job".
I enjoy working on my truck and cars in general but wouldn't want to do it full time, because then it would become a job and I wouldn't like it anymore.
I need to hit the 300+ million dollar powerball lottery and spend the rest of my life having fun with my wife and kids.
I truly dislike the location (the armpit of Washington, DC) and some of the people that I have to work with/for.
I like being a printer. My Dad was a printer. He told me that he didn't want me to be a printer, because he wanted me to have a better life than he had.
(You can't tell anything to a 16 yr. old. At least my Dad couldn't.)
IF I could do it all over again, I'd be handsome and rich. This ugly and poor . . just ain't cuttin' it!

What is it about recruitiing that you dislike so much? I work iin the HQ for NRD Richmond, and the worst part of the job for me (aside form the drive...) is the crazy hours! Shore duty isn't supposed to be this time consuming. But I try to remember that we are doing a vitally important part of protecting the country. I guess I like my job- give me time, though, I'll probably hate it, too. (roller coaster).

I sell paper to printers and you people although you are the customers drive me nuts everyone wants something for nothing and yesterday.
I don't hate my job just some of the people.
Sorry not you in paticular

The crazy hours i can deal with, i am single and suck with girls, so no worries there. I am in NRD Seattle. The thing i hate, is everybodies obsession with numbers, they forget about the people. No one wants to help anyone, if they cant help themselves in the process. And to me, i joined the navy to help people better themselves, the way i did. If that means a few longs nights, or a little extra paperwork, i can do it, but to get badgered by my zone sup because so and so isnt going to count for a contract this month, well he can kiss me where the sun doesnt shine.
I am a computer network administrator because I guess I'm pretty good at it (learn most of this stuff on my own). I'd much rather be turning a wrench - or - engineering a locomotive.. but I'm not all that great with mechanics and I wouldn't change careers this late in the game.
Sometimes sitting at a computer screen at a desk kinda gets to me and I wonder when I'll eventually say "that's enough" and want to try something different.

Well, WildOneCraig . . . I have never asked for "something for nothing and yesterday." (To paraphrase you.)
When I buy paper, I buy it as I need it, when I need it, and I pay a courier GOOD money to go get it, or, I get in my truck and go get it - myself, IF I need it in a hurry.
I buy a LOT of paper. In fact, that is one of my job duties. Buying paper.
Just the mere fact that you called me "you people" tells me that you are classifying me in the same crowd.
WildOneCraig - I have never met you, nor have I ever spoken to you. I honestly think that you have just 'profiled me' because I'm a printer.
BTW. . . what paper house do you work for???
Is it in/near Washington, DC???
I didn't realize that this was a 'Flame Printers' thread. (Now I know.)
I don't hate my job. I deal with homeowners & some of them drive me nuts. I do finish repair on cabinets. I subcontracted trim work on new homes for 28 yrs & hated the dust I stayed in on that job. My health is much better now & I don't have to put up with lazy employees.
My job would be ok if my coworkers would use some common sense and also gain the drive to learn their job to the point they no longer needed their hand held to complete a task. Most of the machinery I fix is due to human error not wear and tear. Plus I don't need the job security from loose nuts running machinery. My workplace is big and busy enough that preventive maintenance, upgrades and equipment additions can keep me busy all the time.
Work for my uncle on the camp ground, family camp ground, and daily i haft to deal with vandalizing, methheads, anykind druggys, roudy people, stupid music (rap) at full blast, i haft to bring out the 12 guage to get things in order atleast three times a day
i lost my go kart because of the job, ahole set it ablaze!!, if ya think of it like this, my county (cherokee, ok) is the second highest number of meth labs bust in the state!
but ive been working the job for about 2 years. i get a four wheeler and a ranger to use so im happy, oh ya no pay, but im goin to branson the week before school starts...

I'm also a sysadmin, and I did say "that's enough" about two years ago.
I took a few months off and eventually took a job in a brake shop, turning wrenches for a living.
I learned many things from this experience.
- working on cars for a living is hard on your body. Air tools and kneeling to set up the lift on 20 cars a day gets tough after a while.
- The type of people who work in a garage are completely different than the kind of people who work in an office.
- They hired me with the understanding that I was an entry level mechanic. I asked reasonable questions and got smartass answers. I got yelled at when things didn't go right. I got yelled at when things didn't go right that weren't even my fault. I was expected to know things that someone with my experience (none) wouldn't. I was made to feel like an idiot when I didn't. The assisstant manager was the most obnoxious know-it-all that I've ever met. He knew everything about everything, and there was no arguing with him.
I think I lasted there three months. I quit and went back to a sys admin job with a whole new perspective on life.
I love my job.
1) My commute is 15 miles one way. Three stoplights, mostly two-lane country roads, driving through metropolitan centers like Damascus and Boring, Ore. Gridlock is when a farmer in a John Deere changes fields, and uses the highway to do it. On a clear day, I look straight at Mt. Hood the whole way there.
2) When I get to work, and it's like being in a toy store. Occasionally, you even get to play with the toys- or show them to other folks.
3) Two stores, two sets of management, and hardly anyone (except those that sign my checks) know exactly what it is I do. You can't get yelled at for not doing your job properly when no one's really sure what that is in the first place. Managers play nice with you, because they're not sure where in the corporate food-chain you are.
4) Two makes, two demos. Bowtie or Blue Oval today... hmmm.
5) Posting on FTE is a company sanctioned activity.
5) They actually pay me to do this...
Pinch me=> what am I missing?

I dont like my job, I lay lay fiberglass mat in parts for the sleepers on peterbilt semi parts. I get all itchy and poke all the time throughout the week, Right now there are new owners taking over the company and they are cutting hours alot, last week I only worked 23 hours, but like a week before that We worked 58 hours. So the thing I really dont like about my job is the itching and poking, and never knowing how many parts we need done.
