I changed the oil filter/and drained the HFCM saturday morning. I started the truck up and drove it for about 20 miles and back in the garage until this morning. I Got in this morning and get away 3 miles away from home and the water in fuel light comes on. Again I drained it saturday and drove it today. I stopped cut the truck off and it came back on. It has stayed on today while i was driving. What should I do before consutling the dealer drain the HFCm again?
If there has been a fair amount of water run through the HFCM, the whole manifold can corrode causing false readings. But then again, maybe you have water in your fuel.
I usually drain the HFCM every 30-45 days until this past saturday when I drained it there was little to no water present on a complete drain. I did get home last night and drained the HFCM again and little to no water period. It is within 1000 miles of needing to replace the fuel filters could that be tripping the light?

My 2004 did the same thing... water light came on..... I drained it.... light off, then right back on... drained, back on, drained, back on.
Ended up taking it to the dealer & there was a bad design on the sensor. Replaced (free) & have had no problems since.
Sounds like GoodNews has the fix. If you take it to the dealer make sure they do not change the fuel filters if they are going to charge you for it. I think you can get the fuel filters and change them yourself and save some money instead of having the dealer do it.
Upon further reflection, since you are within 1,000 miles of fuel filter change I would go ahead and change them. If light does not go out take it to the dealer and tell them you have drained the HFCM a couple times and there is no water in what you drain. Tell them you also replaced the fuel filter so they don't do that and try to charge you for it. They will probably replace or reset the sensor.
This morning I stopped to get the fuel filters from Napa. As I was leaving I hit a speed bump a little harder than I should have and the light went off.........upon entering my office backing into the space I bumped the curb while backing up and the light comes back on. Now that this has happened it seems maybe there is a short or something instead of it actually being water in the HFCM.
