WVO/SVO Conversion

I'm setting up my bioD converter in my shop this week; hope to make my first batch of 'brew' this weekend. Since winter is on its way here in east TX, and it could get down to 40 or so, I'll mix in 15 gallons of #2 Diesel in every 55 gallon drum. That'll give me the equivalent of B70 (or so). On a related issue, I've already posted this question in the alternative fuels section of this list. Since I'm used to using this forum, I'll also post it here:

Does anyone out there have over 100,000 miles on a WVO or SVO two-tank conversion? (http://www.greasel.com/, http://www.greasecar.com/) I'd like to hear about your experiences with injection pump/injection nozzle performance and lifespan, lube oil decisions (type/frequency), and any engine-related repair issues that occured. TIA for any info you folks can provide!

Dave,

two things.... first check out the biodiesel/svo forums, I can't give a link as I don't think it's allowed, but google 'biodiesel infopop forum' it should get you a hit.
there are 250+pages of SVO info by people doing it.

Also check out Dana Linscotts pages. To me he seems THE authority on such things. He is also a member of the above mentioned forums.

I would personally stay away from pre-made kits. Often times the parts are inferior quality, and everything is marked up REALLY high.

Thanks for the input, Drew. Been lurking on several different bio/VO forums since before Easter. Lotta great info on installations, fabrication, etc. It was the LACK on truly hi-mile/long term use data that steered me away from SVO/WVO. I plan to use WVO as a basis for brewing my bioD, but I just don't have enough info to consider it a true alternative fuel, in and of itself. As far as ready-made two-tank kits go, you're trading cost for convenience. As with my bioD converter, I really don't mind making it myself. That allows me to make modifications for space, volume, etc.

Thanks for the info on Dana Linscott. I'll take a look at that tonite!

Drew -

I had a chance to do some reading/researching this evening. WOW!! What a goldmine of info!! Also some verification of some of the concerns I had about injection pump and injector nozzle reliability and lifespan:

Yup. Looks like bioD for the long haul. SVO/WVO looks like false economy. Thanks again!!

personally I think alot of the injector, and IP problems are more user error.
not heating hot enough, or running the veggie too soon.

biodiesel is great, but for me methanol is difficult/unreliable availability wise. Probably because I'm in the middle of no-where.

yeah, really is a great page. Talk to Dana about longevity he does veg conversions for fleet vehicles :-) so obviously he has seen some run a good while.
Ohh his test vehicle was an 84 f250 with a 6.9 in it, so he knows ford diesels.
