I have a 02 f250 srd crew cab 4x4. I recently bought A 40' toy hauler 5th wheel w/ a GVW of 16000#. Do you think I can safely haul my trailer w/ my PSD until I get my new dually? I do have a airlift system on the rear suspension and a Banks brake. Can the components handle It(tranny, rear-end, axles)?
you should be fine, as long as the trailer has brakes that are good enough that can stop itself on it's own, and the truck's brakes only have to work on the truck. only 15-20% of the GVW of the trailer should be on the hitch, and if so, that would be fine. most of the weight should be over the trailer's wheels. the banks brake is good for slowing down too, as long as it locks the Torque Converter up on deceleration.
Sully244, welcome to the forum.
I would not tow that trailer very far with an F-250. It will be sufficient to get it home while empty. Load it up with water and toys and you have a lot more weight to move. The engine will do the job just fine, what will be overtaxed is the rear axle and especially the brakes. I tried to do the same thing with my 36', 14,000lb trailer and warped the front rotors. You really for safety's sake need to go get that dually. Mayby even a 450, or like me I got a 550. HUGE brakes, and no trouble at all with stopping.
