MPG will always be a hot issue. Too many variables...Temps, heavy foot, tires, tire pressure (an easy fix), wind, terrain and a number of other things. If you are getting in the range of 12-17 then I would consider that normal from reading tons of posts. Anything outside of that is good or bad depending which side you are on.
Living here in Vegas and routinely driving to Salt Lake City at 75-80 in my 2005 X with diesel kleen every tank I get about 16-17 going and 17-18 coming home. That includes several passes that top out at 6-7k feet with some steep grades. The entire trip is hilly.
I am confident that if I could stand to go 55-60 I would be over 20 mpg (highway only). I just can't do it!!!! My wife would kill me anyway.
It that stuff generally considered the best to keep injecters clean? BTW If I set my cruise at 65 I get 19 MPG (problem is I can't keep it there or I would get run over lol) How much and where is a good place to buy that Diesel Kleen?
Since this subject has come up yet again, I'm curious about other's findings of ambient temps and how (if at all) it affects MPG. I started checking mileage (by hand using mileage at every other fillup, not the lie-O-meter) at about 1K miles and averaged 16.5 - 17.0 on my everyday commute, when not towing, etc...
As the weather cooled off from Sept to now, my mileage has steadily gone down to about 14.5 - 15.5, same drive, same fuel stations (Pilot) and add've (DK), only difference I can think is the colder weather, and did switch to the white DK bottle also. I have been making a point of driving more conservatively and still not getting above 15.5 latetly. Anyone else experience mileage drop w/ cold weather or the switch to the white DK bottle?
I just got back from a trip, started in Albuquerque, went to Grand Canyon, vegas, Lake Havsu, the total for the trip was 16.8, most of the time the CC was on 83, or so.
well, I just got back from a 2300 mile round trip. 1300 one way and 1000 back (different routes of course ) going from so. cal to denver co. averaged 13.5 mpg round trip. doing 80 mph 90% of the time. and going through full tanks of fuel (no stopping on the trip)
A very interesting turn in my milage, for a year (truck is 1 year old 16000 mi) my milage on highway was always around 10-16.5 mpg. I put fuel on at about 15800 mi and checked my milage (hand calculated) it jumped to 17.4. Just put on fuel again about 16300 and it jumped again 10 18.00 mpg maybe my engine is finally starting to break in?

WB, I hope yer right. I just got my '05 F250 in July (just topped 15,000 miles) and I average between 16.5 and 17.5 mpg (since the day I drove it off the lot). That's a 2wd truck, bone stock, with 3.73 rear end, automatic and 95% highway driving on 100 mile round trips to work. I've even driven out a full tank without tach'ing over 2200 rpms and it made no difference. I'd be tickled to death just to get 20mpg on the highway!!
Regardless, I'm glad I bought it and look forward to towing my trail rig around.

Reason: Sig not showing up!!!
I have the 2005 - 6.0L Ford 4x4 with 3 inches of lift and 35 Pro Comps and have installed the Edge Products - Juice Attitude Platimun
I just did some mpg testing interstate and in town. All figures were hand calculated.
On the highway at 70 to 71 mph for 300 miles I got 17.06mpg
On the highway at 74 to 76mph for 300 miles I got 16.5 mpg
In town pulling a 5500 pound trailer(4 days a week) on the mileage setting (level 1) I get 13 mpg
In town same as above on stock settings I get about 11 to 11.5 mpg
I have had the Edge Juice with the Attitude monitor for over 5000 miles and have no problems. I am a believer...for sure.
I guess what I like about it most is that (other than when towing heavy) when I need/want a little more umph - it will give me all I want and then some. Example, If I am driving down SR40 behind some Q-tips and need to pass, I may place the attitude on level "3" or Drive - and really have the power to make a safe and quick pass.

The viscous losses associated with cold fluids, the additional warm up cycle time, increased drag associated with higher cold air density can conspire to reduce fuel economy by 15-20% on the EPA drive cycles.
It is no surprise that people see a 2 mpg degradation or more in the winter. I had a Mazda3 5 speed which would get 24-26 mpg metro/highway in the winter around Detroit and 28 mpg in the summer.
I concur on the mileage drop in the winter. Although my theory is the drop is also due to the anti-gel additives the stations use. Don't know if it is right or not. In the summer, I get between 16.5-17.5 and in winter it is between 15.5-16.5. I've had the truck almost 2 years and have 40,000+ miles on it. I just bought a SCMT 1704-a programmer that should be here shortly. I plan on gauges in the next month and exhaust sometime very soon. Change oil 7,000-7,500 and fuel filters every 15,000. I have never put one drop of fuel additive in my tank.
