Today was just a bad day at my house. woke up early so i could work on my Beast. well it wouldn't start. i pulled the screw out of the side of my holley carb to see if the float was all good. well no fuel trickled out of it. so knowing me i threw a screwdriver about 50 yards then i cranked it till the battery went dead. let it charge and then before i had to leave for work went out there cranked her over and it stuttered and choked so i cranked her over again and stutterd then back fired and i think there was a mouse nest in my muffler and to add that i have a hole in the top of my muffler so that cought leaves on fire that were sitting in the inside of my frame. well put the fire out after alot of runing to my house about 80 yards grabbing a big exstuingisher then running 80 yards back. well i am thinkin maybe the pipe was cloged up so maybe that is why it wasn't running good. but prob not because this truck is driving me insane and if something pops or clunks i think that is wrong with it. that 351m is a piece, of junk.
X,
Hey man, back off of the 351M!!! Now w/ that said, I was just like you when the 351M kept dying @ every intersection on the way home from work. She finally layed down about 3 miles from the house. Turns out the coil died and the timing chain was about 3" too long (stretched). Swapped the coil and timing gear (only thing fixed on a 185,000 mile motor that my father-in-law bought new, not bad IMHO) and she runs like a champ again!
Point to all of this, keep the faith. Ford trucks are a PITA sometimes, but its worth it when it all comes together.
Doc
P.S.
Watch out throwing tools, the only way to find them is w/ a lawnmower and a new truck (long, painful story))

Sometimes we all have to blow off a little steam. I fail to see how a "mouse nest" combusting in the muffler equates to the 351M being a piece of junk but when I read about the tool flinging I could understand the frustration level. Anyway...
i ought to smack u for saying 350 on my post. well MY 351m sucks. never ran right since the day we bought it 8 yrs ago. well i keep thinkin i can get this beast going but i am really motivated to put that 460 block and heads in my garage to work. this time i am not going to buy anything used. especailly the manifold and carb. well thanks for your guys responses gotta go fix that fuel line and rewire my electric fuel pump.
When I used to get angry at my truck she would always act up and the problems would get worse. Keep in mind that that 351m that you hate has a personality. Treat her nice and she will do the same in return.
No sense in getting mad at your truck. I used to have that problem but not anymore. Get a couple more, couple hundred bucks a year extra for another registration and insurance and your woes are cured. When one of my old trucks wants to give me a fit it just gets parked out back for a while until I decide to play with it again...
well thanks guys for understanding but i think we all have our ways of taking out our fustration. i treat her allright, she is a little dirty cuz she won't start to mover her so i can give her a bath. mabye she doesn't like me that much. maybe i should replace her with her older sister the 460. then she would get jelous and run like a cheeta for me. but oh well almost ready to start her up again. got a big fire extuinguisher with me this time. thanks people
