Dave:

The picture I had was for a 3.0L engine compartment. It's hard to say precisely where things are when you zoom in a picture, so I wouldn't worry about it. The 4.0L connectors are in the same place since I have both a 3.0L and a 4.0L version. The 3.0L is a '93 and the 4.0L is a '95.

Nighthawk:

If you have the CD for '97, go to the EVTM section and select the Transmission Control section. The wiring diagram is there. As I see it, the 5R55E has solenoid control for gear shifts from 1st to 5th gears, so now you have lots of LEDs to look at if you want to do it

I thought about this, but I am leary that by adding wire and lights, that the current drop might affect shifting at the least, at the very worst, fry everything.

Nighthawk:

The current through the solenoid is in the order of 1A. The LED is in parallel to the solenoid and it draws 0.025A, so I don't think it matters.

Assuming I hook up the right wires.

Look on the bright side. If you hook up the wrong wire, the van will burn down, and you can get a Windstar

It still looks like a fun project. If I saw an LED flashing in conjunction with the clunk of the shift or the lockup, I'd feel more confident that it wasn't something bad happening.

Think maybe we should use a fuse inline to prevent an issue?

An inline fuse of 1A (before the LEDs) should be plenty because you expect to draw at most 0.05A for both LED. That's the reason I go with LED instead of a regular 12V light bulb.

I installed it because I couldn't tell when my Torque Converter locks up and when it shifts into 4th gear. I can tell the 2nd and 3rd gears shifts, but the 3-4 shifts and the T/C lock up don't provide a big jolt.
