Trying to figure out on why my truck would cut out going up a hill. It cuts out, then "hits" again and a big black smoke cloud emerges from the exhaust...keeps going as soon as i let my foot off the gas pedal and then romp on it again....any thoughts? 2003 F250 CC 4x4......thinking it might need a new flash??? Never had any flashes before.....

Maybe look into the turbo sensor. It isn't quite the same problem I had when my turbo sensor went, but you don't know till you try. Like the other folks have said, maybe check your EGR valve. I had similar problems here recently when my EGR valve went. I got some advice a couple of years ago off this forum to stay away from flashes unless it is your last option. I haven't had mine flashed at all and my fuel mileage is 18-20 in the summer and 14-16 in the winter, and it has been running great except those two problems. Also if you tell the dealership not try a new flash, then they actually have to try to fix the problem instead of a computer update.
My EGR is bad. If I plug it in the things farts, snorts, coughs bangs, whisltes.....you get the idea...... or runs fine. I'm not replacing it, I just unplug the stupid thing. If the EGR would stay open then you would have to do something about it.
I'm not sure why everyone thinks reflash, Ford isn't out to screw-up your truck. One flash gives a new percentage the EGR will open. Many trucks have been reflashed with less than expected results.
Know your truck, don't get excited when it throws something new at you, figure it out on your own and stop going to the dealer because you thought something is wrong. If you suspect an EGR, unplug it and see the results. Ford offers a new EGR that is coated to solve the sticking issue.
But there are benefits to the latest flash... like it doesn't open your EGR as more or for as long as it used to at idle to keep it from carboning. The VGT get cycled at idle to keep it from seizing up for those that never get wound out. Both of these changes result in a bit more noise, but still make it worth while to keep your calibration up to date... IMHO ofcourse.
