Got really cold last night. Went out and warmed truck up after setting in the parking lot all night @ -8. When I left and stomped on it ( after fully warmed up) the truck sputtered out. Kept running but not very well. when I backed off it was fine. At first I thought of gelling issues, but that isn't it. Just seems in the colder air once the Turbo starts to spool the truck starts to "miss". I don't have a grille blanket. Any one else have this problem and or a solution????
That one is weird, was the entire truck warmed up and you driven it for twenty miles or so? I have driven mine at -24 and had no issues at all, however I personally would never stand on it….at those temps, reason being.....at that temp the driveline can take many many miles to get up to temp.
I know the temp gauge may say warm….but….
IMO I would drive it a bit gingerly at those temps, only a suggestion.
Extended periods of idling at low RPM's can cause the catayltic converter to plug up. If it is mild plugging, the truck seems sluggish with no power until the cat heats up enough to burn out the build up. Driving the truck in a lower gear or in tow/haul mode will run at higher RPM's and generate more heat. Some serious plugging has taken about an hour or an hour and half of driving to blow out this build up.
Extreme cases of plugging require the cat to be removed and the build up to be removed physically with a hammer and punch.
