79 f150 with a 351m. I have the opportunity to buy a 460 with engine, c6 tranny, radiator and driveshaft for the same year. The trannys are the same, but will I have to buy different motor mounts? What else will give me trouble? Thanks for any help!

I just answered this question in the 1980's forum.

Yes,you will need 429/460 motor mounts.
Plus, an Oil Pan for a Truck.
429/460 Convertor ,if the tranny is complete,it should be in there all ready.

You didn't say whay year the 460 was ?
Early 460's are better.

Happy to see others doing this conversion... getting alot of education out of this... I am using a 460 and C-6 tranny out of a 75 Mercury Marquis and dropping it into my 49 F-1 Pickup thats running 73 ford running gear (4 wheel drive) In my research (for my conversion that is) I have found that all that needs to be done is motor mounts, tranny mounts, and the tail of the tranny will have to be changed as well.. The tranny I currently have is a NP435. It's much shorter than the C-6 out of car.. Not sure if thsi helps but have fun.. Just remember there is nothing that cant be modified without a little welding..

I converted my 77 F-150 from a 351 to a 460. Mine came out of a 77 Lincoln Mark V. The car tailshafts are quite abit longer than the trucks and the tranny mount was also different. I Modified my crossmember and my brother in-law shortened my drive shaft.
If the motor/trans combo is out of a truck, You WILL need the 460 frame mounts to mount you motor mounts to. The holes are already in the frame so you shouldn't have to do any drilling there. If you are going to run stock type exhaust manifolds, The must be from a truck. You can use car manifolds, but you will have to notch the frame next to the passengerside pipe flange. My truck uses an adjustable rod for carb linkage, but I believe 78/79 use a cable. I do not know if the cables are the same lenghth or not. There is a small possability that it may be too short, But I think you will be ok here. Other than that, it is just a time consuming, direct boltup. There are piddley things like, The 351 oil sending unit it on the front of the block by the oil filter and the 460 is on the top of the block behind the intake manifold. My front end dropped about 3/4" from the added weight, But I get 1 to 2 mpg better and have twice the towing power.
Good luck, e-mail me if you have any more questions about the swap. Jimmy :-)

Fatdaddy's right-get the L&L motor mounts-they set the motor at the correct height for driveshaft angles and clutch linkage alignment.About a 100 bucks, but definitly worth it.
