Instrument Cluster Switch-Ability...

I read the post on how to switch out a standard instrument cluster in a 92-96 F-Series to one with a tach, but I was curious after I found this...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1996F...spagenameZWDVW

It came out of a 1996 Bronco, but will it work in my 1994 F-150? I know that they switched computer systems in 1996, but I was still curious if this would work...

Thanks for any insight!

As I understand 92 & 93 and 94 & 95 and 96's stand alone.

But that is just my understanding.

Wait until one comes up on Ebay for a 1994. 1996 clusters with tach seem to be alot more expensive and rare than other years.

Also I just bought a 1996 with tach from this guy and he sent one WITHOUT tach. He says he's going to straighten it out......

Thanks for the posts, fellas.

I'll be in the lookout for them in the bone-yards, just to see what I can come up with. I had a SunPro tach to the right of the instrument cluster until I reached to turn my radio down one night and missed... Now there's a big 'ol hole where the tach once stood.

I've gotta get another cover, so that's something that's going to go along with the OEM tach install.

Thanks again!

I'm about 60 miles East of you... I'm in Lexington, about 8 miles South of I-40.

Still on the search for a cluster with a tach... lol.

If I ever do find one, will it be "plug n' play" or something far more?

Plug and play...other than spending a few minutes swapping your speedometer into the new cluster. Expect it to take less than an hour. Also I'd recommend buying a whole set of bulbs and replacing all of them on the new cluster, so you don't have to take the darned thing out again.

Here's the instructions:

Nightrain,
I'm going over to a salvage yard that I'm pretty sure has one or two clusters and face plates. I'm wanting to do the same thing to my 94 250. I'll check on price for you if you're interested. I'm over in Jackson so getting them to you shouldn't be too hard.

Hey, thanks!

I don't know if you've heard of Highway 54 Auto Salvage in Alamo, but I sent an e-mail over to them, requesting an instrument cluster with a tach for my truck. I'm pretty doggone sure that they'll have it. I'll let you know how it turns out!

Keep an eye out for me in your area. I'll keep mine peeled here, also!

BTW, I'm less than 30 miles from you in Lexington.

I'll try to get to the place today or tomorrow at the latest. I talked to him the other day and could have got a cluster for 40 bucks. Didn't have the cash with me and the wife had the checkbook. Then had to bond a friend out and that put the brakes on that project for a little bit. I'll see if he'll let me wander through his yard and see what I can spot for clusters and faceplates.

I put a 95 cluster in my 96. It worked. The ABS light came on. I pulled the ABS bulb and everything else works fine. I have no ABS at this point.
As stated above 92-93 interchange, 94-95 interchange, 96 is stand alone.

I have yet to hear anything from Highway 54 Salvage... Maybe they'll get back with me soon.

I'll start calling around to some yards and see what they have. Who knows what might turn up...

So, I need to look for a 94-95 cluster, right?

Yeah, 94-95 with tach, and preferably the black face plate. The PO on mine decided to gorilla-torque the mounting screws sometime in the past and split the plastic behind the snap-in trim piece.
