i have been working on my uncles chevy for about a week. he blew a head gasket i offerd to do it. BIG MISTAKE. this thing has faught me sence day one. we pulled the intake lifter valley was coverd in half an inch of sludge. pulled the valve covers.. same deal. 2 days of cleanin and all in sub freezing temps. the rest was spendin findin out where all the little brackets and that crap went. stopped on monday cause i needed rest wakein up at 7 for school and satyin up till 3 was takein it toll on me. last night i got bored and set the timeing as best i could with out a 2nd person. today go it fired up blew all the crap that was in it out, just went to fire it up 5mins ago look at the guages and NO OIL PRESSURE none at all. the dizzy is seated and there is oil in it. i am on my last nerve with this truck. please any help with this.
i keep sayin im gonna shoot it, and it somethin dont happen soon, well i just might havta. does anyone know if buck shot will go through cast iron? or will i needa get the ol 30-06 out with the armor piercing?
no i havta get it done its my uncles truck and he needs it. if it was my truck then i wouldent care what the neightbors thought at bout this point. it runs, it runs fine just no oil pressure im gonna go pull the valve covers to see if the guage died or the sensor fried but it was workin when we started.
if i didnt have my carb off my truck i would have pulled it around the mountain like a toy alredy.
If you have to get it going that`s a different story, maybe some of the sludge is causing the problem. I don`t know how hard it is to pull the oil pan but you may have to do it. Good luck, just remember to stay away from chebbies.
i no i didnt really mind doin it, its just the fact that its fightin me like this, im gonna havta pull the pan anyways, we never got to clean it out, when we were done the heads and lifter valley were almost spotless. it had pressure when he drove it in, the only thing i can think of is somethin got lodged some where, or the ring that pfogle is talking about.
Ive never had too many problems working on the small block chevys that i own.You never said what motor your uncle has.most gm motors are preety basic,i did say "most".
By far the biggest pain is setting points on those stupid rear dizy's.
Um... you didn't knock the wire off the pressure sender or kink the tube (depending on what it uses), did you?
Another thing... and I have to ask this... did you drain all of the sludge out and put fresh oil/filter in?
after you check these, get a real oil pressue gauge and check it first before dropping the pan, this way you will have a true reading and not from an idiot gauge. do i need to explain why they are called idoit gauges?
