Yeah, if you spun one tire for a while with an LS, chances are you glazed the clutches.
Power brake it and try get the LS to lockup - if at all... let us know what happens (with those big tires, you can do it in dirt if you can't get them going on pavement).
I guess that gives me as good excuse as any to get 4.56's with a new LS if that's the case. How much does a new LS unit go for (parts/labor)? I plan on keeping the truck for a long time so I might go with the TruTrac if the LS really is trashed.
I ended up lifting up the truck and moving each tire and it took a bit to get 'em to turn so who knows what's goin' on in there. I think all and all I'm going to have to pull the cover. I was going to put new oil in it but at $15/quart for Mobil 1 synthetic I think I'll have to hold off a bit.
I'll try to lock it up next time I'm out and about and let you all know the outcome. Thanks again for the help!
For what it's worth, I pulled the cover off yesterday and found nothing out of the ordinary (plus I've been anxious to see what that 10.5" sterling looked like first-hand). No teeth were laying in the bottom of the pumpkin and as best I could, rotated the tires and tried checking out the spider gears through the LS unit and those appeared intact. The oil didn't seem anymore foul than it normally does and the color appears to be ok. Everything seems in order so I guess I'll just wait it out and see what happens. Is there any possibility that it could be the transfer case or the tranny? I didn't think so since it does it only while turning and under hard acceleration so I'm hoping this is the case and it is just the rear end. I think for my b-day in March I'm going to ask for new gears and a trutrac unit, sweeeeeeet.
Again, thanks all for the help and I'll report up anything new I find.

Well, I decided to throw in Motorcraft 75/140 synth oil and Ford's friction modifier instead of the old stuff (which who knows what the garage put in it 3 years ago). I took it out and drove it around for a bit and found a nice patch of snow to check the LS unit, and low and behold it still works. On the way home, I wanted to see if it was still clunking (under my odd conditions previously mentioned) and sure enough it was. I guess only time (and some abuse) will tell.
I did notice the ring gear had some wear between the teeth deep in the groove. Wasn't sure if that was normal or not. Anyways, thanks again all for your input.
From what the dealer told me it will take about 100 miles for the additive to work if its going to. Let us know what you find out. Hope it does because I still have to put that stuff in mine.-Bill

Well, I only drove a few miles and mine engaged. I found a pile of snow and backed up to it and put it in drive. I stepped on the gas and both tires did spin. I'll report back after 100 miles or so and see if it still works.

that "slight turn" thing is weird.
Yeah, tried that and didn't hear anything strange. I'm totally confused as to what the issue is. It's only doing it when turning right. It very well could be a spider gear that's missing a tooth and it just disintegrated, I don't know. I was limited as to how much I could view the spider gears through the LS unit as the holes are spaced pretty far apart.
