not charging

not charging

i have a 88 f250 7.3idi with a 5 speed i cant get it to charg ive had the alt bench tested and its fine changed the volt reg now it work every now and then it has a meter and a dummy light when the light is on volts at the battery 12.02 when its off 14.8 to 15.3

Make sure the voltage reg is well grounded & the battery cables are not
corroded inside

My brother had a 90' 7.3 with a similar and intermittent problem. On his truck, it was the wire connectors that connect to the alternator. After new batteries, new alternator, and new regulator didn't fix the problem, he replaced the connectors and hasn't had a problem since.

Check the small single wire from the alt it has a fusible link also the connector is known to burn up.

My E250 was doing the same thing.It was the new alternator i bought from the auto store.After installing it out of the box it charged the battery for about 2 min then stop.It would do this every cold start.I took it back to the auto store three times to have them test it.Every time i took it back they said it was a good alternator.In the long run it was the alternator after paying some one to tell me that.
