I have an 85 f-250 which has always started right up and ran great. Recently I have replaced the two air pumps (which had been removed by previous owner) and check valves in hopes of registering my truck. After install, the truck now has a very noticable backfire on decelleration. Anyone have any idea's as to why. Also, with the pumps off and truck running good, I was always concerned as to why the emissions light would only come on during the brief start up cycle...shouldnt the light have stayed on with an emissions code. This is the same truck that I ahve a thread on about EEC-3 system. Any help is much appreciated as I am struggling to deal with EEC-3.
Today, I fired the old girl up to take it to the store, she ran like a dream??? I dont get it. Why would it backfire like all heck one day, then not at all the next. I thought I was just imagining this at first and really tried to get it to backfire...nothing??? Any thoughts??
Dont think so as I have dual tanks and just filled up with super unleaded. You dont think the higher octane could do this do you? I usually use regular unleaded but I thought the higher octane would help
Higher octane should not do this. But somthing is causing your truck to run rich, would be my guess. First of all, how would installing an air pump cause your carb to run rich? I would start there. Hope I helped. But this stuff is hard to answer without going through the general list if what functions how, and what would cause this. A big list, and many things it could be to me.
