radius arm drop and extension

Ive been working on this project for my 67 f100, its a 2wd, but since 4wd's have coils as well I thought id post it here. I got the 10.5" extensions from bent and twisted, painted the arms, then made a made a drop bracket(caster was way off because of 4" lift coils), that welded up to my stock one. Its made out of 1/4" plate, and 2.5"x2.5" square tube. All I need to do is drill a hole in the bottom part of the frame so the bracket is bolted in from underneath, not just the side. Then paint it. After I get back from vacation Ill do the same to the other side.

more pics of the drop before being welded to stock bracket are in my gallery.

I have been wondering if anyone had started making something like that. $120, not sure if that is too crazy or not price wise. Is the inside of the tube treaded or does it just slip inside?

i dont know if its just a 4x4 ting because of the tension forces, but all the 4x4;s ive seen with that radius arm setup ends up bending them or tearing at the welds, they usually need more reinforcement around that area...just trying to help!

are you talking about were the extension welds on? Yea I could imagine them tearing, or even bending. I went and spot welded mine on as well. Im not going to be wheeling this truck hard at all (its a 2wd) but I will see what it can do after I get my rear axle locked, and finish all the other stuff that it needs doing.

A lot of people actually plate the entire arm with 1/4" plate (including the extentsion) and weld the heck out of it.

i think when i do mine im just gonna fab my own up, and keep the top of the arm as close to the frame as posible, but keep it pretty long so its not the limiting factor of travel.

It would not limit the down traval, but would it limit the up traval? And are you going longer?

well not exactly limit, just would give the axle less leverage on the bushings. i think im going to offset the brackets towards the outside of the frame rail, and go with a long straight arm, so when it compresses i dont have and mangling issues. this is all asuming that i dont use the leaf sprung 44 sittin out back, withch on the this truck, im not looking for flex, so it will do just fine. but on the bronco, i think im gonna go with the longer arms like said.

If you outwords with the arms you would limit your turning, cause the tires would hit them. But the bronco's is a short so it still will turn ok.

If you could stay away from the diveshaft it should be ok. My 78 f250 doesn't have much room there.
