I was planning on replacing my old rubber body mounts on my 1987 ford ranger xlt 4x2 with a poly mount set. Recently i have taken a great notice to the old ones that are cracking and flatning out. Has anyone done this before? Can it be done in a weekend? What will i need? can it be done with a hydro. jack and a few blocks and stands? Any complications to look out for?
also Look at the Mounting bracket's on the Frame mine When I did my V8 swap I had the cab and front clip complety off and off the 6 body mounting spots I had to refab 4 off them that was rotted out. I had to cut up some flat steel and weld ontop of what was left so that the New Poly body bushing had something to sit on.
I had to redo both Front Bushing under the raditor support, Front Cab mounts was fine. Both Rear Cab mounts had rusted out. I just weld a plate on top of what was left as the support archs was fine just eht flat mounting point need replacing.
hope this helps you out. Due some looking at your old mounts and look to see if they are still sitting on top of good metal or have they begain to fall Rot through.
Saws all to cut the old bolts up or break them apart most likley they are rusted and gonna be a fun time to remove them.
An SUV high lift floor jack and a short piece of 2x4 and 4x4 is all I used when I did my lift and bushing replacement. A good impact and a sawsall are definitely needed too to get some of the tough ones.
I think it took me 2.5 days to do it alone, but that was with mount clean up spot painting and dealing with the couple of bolts that were a pain.
Review your repair manual so you are completely familliar with all parts and how they go together. I was suprised and dismayed when I found out that the body mount sleeves slip inside each other and have a tendency to rust together. I only had to cut one in half and I put it back in that way.
Good source for OE type odd parts like those is LMC Truck. Somethings a bit spendy but a lot of those odd parts are available.
yeah i have the book right next to me lmc has some good deals every once and a while i thou ght of taking advantage of this one. the mounts are really fine no visible rust. But yeah i ave all the tools needed and a shop manual along with my haynes so i got alot of steps to compare.
