6.9 emissions

I have to get emissions done on my 6.9 and was wondering if kerosene in the tank burns cleaner than diesel. What tricks do ya'll got to increase my chances of passing?? Fuel additives, restore compression can, ?

timing and a clean air filter will help. also make sure there is NO red fuel in the tanks.

the grate under the air cleaner is soaked in oil or something... so i imagine the air filter should be changed... How do i go about timing? you think kerosene would work?

Sounds like it's time to clean your CDR valve.

Agreed, sad thing is that it's only a matter of time before the brilliant minds in Sacramento decide to make Californians smog diesels too.

Here is Washington State they emmision test in some parts of the test. The diesel test is real easy, it is just a opicity test. If you engine won't pass that, then you should not be driving it, period. It is not only hard on everyone's lungs, but also on your engine's exhaust valves and exhaust.

I have yet to run across one that won't pass the test unless it is running cold or grossly over fueling.

One other thing, if your engine is turbo'd and you have disconnected the anaroid valve, then you could also be overfueling until the turbo boost builds. This is real noticable on the big rigs when they beltch out those huge clouds of black soot on acceleration, not the normal soot, but that real heavy black cloud. Pisses me off every time I see that as it gives all diesels a bad name.

What is an opacity test?...EDIT: just looked it up...i may be able to pass that one... looks to be like colorado only opacity tests them rather than on a dyno...good thing....

Basicly it is looking for the correct color exhaust on a hard acceleration. Too black (soot, unburned fuel) and you don't pass, but that is a good thing because if you are running the engine in that condition, you are not only wasting fuel, (and lungs) but also affecting the engine longevity.

See, not all "emmisions testing" is a bad thing.
