Will a bench seat out of a 80-96 F-150 fit in my 76 ? If I put my seat adjusting rails on it I thonk it would work fine, anyone know ?
There is a ton of late model bench seats on ebay, Nice cloth ones with fold down center console, darn nice seats, problem is there all tan I dont know what the deal is with the guy selling them, only buys tan interior trucks for some sort of conversion he does but I dont want tan can I dye it ? like that rit dye at the grocery store, mix up a batch and paint it on the seat
Or should I talk to my local upholstery shop, it would be a waste to recover the seat when all it needs is a good dye job.....maybe I could just spray paint it
I replaced my original vinyl bench with a nice cloth one with arm rest and lower back support air pillows. It fit right into the same four mounting holes.
96 on the the F-150's since the new bodystyle came out in 97 ford F-150 only, a 97 F-250-350-superduty seat would fit as they didnt go to the super duty bodystyle in late 97
The seats up to '96 will fit in the early trucks with no problem at all. I put the seat out of a '95 XLT Lariat in my '72 Ranger. Just took a few minutes to do the swap and it looks (and feels) great. The rails on the late model seat are bolted on with metric bolts to threaded inserts in the frame while the rails on the original seat in my '72 had 5/16" studs on the rails. I just drilled the threaded inserts out to 5/16" then put the original rails on the new seat using new nuts and washers. Bolt the seat back in and you are finished. If you would like to see what a late model seat looks like in an early truck let me know and I can take some pictures of mine for you.
If you get the seat track assemblies from a 78-79 Bronco. The floor pans are totally different between the pre 80 and post 80 trucks. I have tried to install many different types of bucket seats in my 78, and eventually went with a 92 seat in my 78, and a 84 Supercab seat in my 70. I am tall, and adapted bucket seats didn't allow the seat to lean back and the seat to go back far enough. The cab is actually kinda tight front to back, and the floor is really high in the seat area. I like the backs on the 82 supercab seat better, but the bottom of the 92 seat rides better- go figure, I have to choose sore back or sore butt.
Neither seat installation (70 or 78) had studs, both were bolted in. Be careful when removing the seat tracks from the seat, if you pull the lever, the rail will move very quickly with little effort, you can severely cut or even chop off a finger relativly easy. At the very least it will hurt a whole bunch where you finger is pinched.
He guys, sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I got tied up at work and didn't have a chance to check the board until just now. I'll get some pictures of my seat first thing in the morning. I'll probably just stick them up on a web page and post the link rather than posting them here so people that aren't interested in looking at the pics won't have to wait for them to load just to read this thread.
OK folks, I finally got the pics online. I have a page with a little info about my truck and I added a page with some pics of the seat and tried to show how it mounts. Again I apologize for taking so long. The url is:
