steering adjustment
David
This is an easy thing to do. Don't worry about all the stories you hear about how sensitive this "procedure" is.
Simply loosen the locking nut on top of the steering gear several turns. Insure the center bolt stays still while you loosen it. Simply take a screw driver and tighten the bolt clockwise until it is snug. Retighten the locknut.
Now, your an expert.
The following symptoms may result:
1. The steering does not return to center after a turn, your too tight. Solution, drive it till it wears in or simply loosen bolt a little.
2.You still have too much play in wheel. Solution: tighten bolt some more but, this time crank down on it! Your steering gear is trashed and it's probably too late anyways.
3. Can't get the play out. Solution: Buy a new steering gear for $160 or find the play someplace else.
