Previous owner told me I have a "1974 359 CID M.D. truck engine" in my 56 F100. Does this motor exsist? Are there number on the block to figure out what this is? And what about a site to tell me what it is? Thanks!

That would be a low compression FT truck engine. They (FT engines in general) were put in big trucks, F600's and such. It's a low revving low compression motor.
People often tell a good story, so go look on the block and especially the heads for numbers. Look between the center two exhaust ports for casting numbers. An example of the numbers we're looking for would be D2TE-AA, or C4TE-A, or something like that.
I've seen only one of these motors and it was in an old u-haul truck. The story that I got from FE gods was that this motor was made for u-haul and used only in BIG trucks.
I'd look at the head casting numbers as this is probably a middle exhaust crossover type head rather than the offset crossover. look at the intake compared to the FE intake and you should see the FT center crossovers that go on the bottom of the intake.
Probably best to run that engine till it dies, the replace with a good 390 so that you'll have more replacement parts to choose from.
some of the FT's had cast iron timming covers and engine mounts on front as well.

Thanks Rusty. I'll be digging around tomorrow to see what I can find.

Thanks! Not worth rebuilding the 359? It's running strong now, I just thought while I was installing a C6 (should be fun!) I would send the motor out. 390 and 428 have the same ease of finding parts since they're the same motor? Thanks alot!
is the timing cover cast iron or aluminum? 359's were u haul exclusive. used in the f 350's as a oddball , backed by a 4 speed, manual steering, powerbrakes , radio delete, basic heater. it was used in very very stripped down uhaul trucks. but most u hauls are strip down trucks. most had a D70 rear. I really doubt you have a FT let alone a 359.
Thanks for getting back to me. Not sure about the timing cover, I've got Friday off, I'll crawl around and see what I can find. I had no idea it would be this comlicated to figure out what motor I have. The 56 has 3 speed, no PS, no power brakes, no radio, basic heater. So what numbers WILL tell me what I have? Thanks again!
Will do. I've learned more from you guys in the 2 or three nights I've been on the forum than I thought was possible. I have also learned that like mechanics and doctors, the opinions differ as well! I like your no nonsence approach. Thanks for taking the time to help me out.
