I am having a problem with my carburetor, I think.
Here are the symptoms: Idles fast cold, engine lags when accelerating, wants to shut off when sitting at a red light, choke does'nt open fully when engine is warm. Also If someone knows where the line(appears to be a vacuum line)that is located on the left side of the carb up by the choke body is supposed to connect. It has about 6" of rubber tubing then changes to a metal tubing with a slight flared end. Found it hanging down in the engine compartment and no manuals I have read mention it or show it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Carter Carb YFA model 1BBL.
I have an 84, and the line I think you found is the same one I found, goes down, with nothing hanging or to connect to. I just plugged that line, and I also reccommend, getting some carb cleaner, and spraying around the base of the carb, and the intake to verify there are no leaks into the intake. On mine, I found the carb, ad base gasket were bad, got a rebuild kit, rebuilt it, and found 3 vacuum leaks. I plugged them, and the truck runs like a top. I had the same problems when I got it, I tuned it up, and still had the problems, and I checked it with a can of carb cleaner. If there is a vacuum leak, the idle will raise slightly and smooth out.
One more I forgot about was... the 3/8 vac hose that goes to the front top of the carb, make sure that the brass male is in there. Check it with carb cleaner. Mine leaked. It is juat a brass tube that is pushed into the carb housing which I believe connects to the vacuum canister.
