i just wanted to know what the stock gearing is on a 1975 f-250 4x4 it is a d60 back d44 front 360,np435 i have looked on the door and the sticker is worn so i can't tell i've heard that most of these trucks are 4.10 any info would be helpful.
If it didn't come with any kind of trailer package, I'd actually say 3.50.
The easyest way to tell is look on the bolt covers and if the original tag is still there, come type in the first 5 or so numbers and I or someone else can tell you what you have.
Front are rear gears would be the same if you can't find a tag on one, but the other.
My experience has been that most highboys seemed to come with 4.09/4.10 gears. The 78/78 F250 4x4's most frequently have 3.54's. This of course doesn't mean anything for certain in regards to bloodhound's truck, but if I had to guess I'd say they're 4.10's.
If the tag is still on the diff cover it should have the gear ratio stamped into it.
Try locating a gear ratio tag on the front or rear covers on the axles.
Items you need to check the rear and front gear ratio.
Duct tape
Rope, string, or ribbon.
Flat driving surface.
On driver side tires, where the tire make contact with the flat driving surface, place a strip of duct tape.
Then place a some duct tape at one end of the rope (or ribbon, etc..., or something that will wrap around the driveshaft) and tape it to the very bottom or the very top of the driveshaft. Then drive the truck forward until the tire make one complete revolution. Then count the number of times the rope has wrapped around the driveshaft PLUS the amount the tape has rotated from where you started. For instance, If rope was taped to the very bottom of driveshaft and the rope wrapped around 3 times plus now the tape on driveshaft is facing at the very top of drive shaft (the driveshaft has turned half a turn). 3 rev plus a half turn = 3.50:1 gear ratio.
i have determined they are 4.10 thanks for the help now should that be plenty to turn 33's i know they aren't huge but you have to think it is a 360 and i will certainly be pulling some hay with it.
oh and what is this factory 4 inch hiboy lift i keep hearing about i am going to put a 3 inch body lift on that me and my dad made but everyone says that its already lifted four inches, i just think its still short.
that helps alot it seems like so much info gets thrown around half of which sounds untrue but i can pick out the useful stuff thanks alot for the help. i have been restoring this truck for a year and a half and i still learn something new about them everytime i go to the garage.
