Gauges going crazy

Every now and then (mostly when it is cold) the gauges on my 99 F150 go wild at start up. As soon as the engine starts all the gauges spin all the way around. Then they go back to zero and start working properly. Can anyone help?

Could be a lot of things, but when ever the guages start dancing on me at start up, I think shorted cell in the battery.

It's a sign that the battery is losing sufficient voltage overnight to lose stored data in the engine management system. Replace the battery.

Hi rshields1, I have a 2001 Expedition and am having the same problem. Did you figure out what was causing it? Should I replace my battery?

Replace the battery. So far, several of my friends have had the same problem solved by a battery.

Guages doing that is a "dead" givaway that the battery will leave you stranded soon. It needs to be replaced as soon as possible.

Turn your lights on for about 10 minutes without the truck running and see if it will start, if it doesn't the battery is all but toast, mine is doing the same thing right now, I just haven't made it to get a battery yet. I imagine if I do not get it replaced I will be walking shortly.
