Fuel Injection Swap

I would like to remove the fuel injection system from a 1991 F-150 w/302 and install it on a 1966 mustang which also has a 302 engine. Does anyone have info on this? Is it possible???

You would probably be better off using the wiring and computer from an 89-93 mustang. The EFI system is better on those than the trucks, and will certainly be more car-oriented.

As you have probably guessed, I already have the truck. I bought it for body parts and now have them stripped and was thinking of ways to utilize some of the other parts. The truck ran when I bought it and I just thought it would be nice to have fuel injection on the old mustang. Will the injection intake manifold bolt to my old 302 block and heads? Maybe I could even use the serpentine belt set-up?

You would need the front timing cover off of the truck 302 as well, because serpentine belt sustems with 1 belt have reverse flow water pumps which pumps coolant to the heads first instead of the block like on the older models. This may also put the bottom hose on the other side of the engine (not possitive though). The truck system will work with the wiring harness, distributor and such. The truck intake is much taller than the car intakes and probably won't fit unless you have a tall hood.

It'll all work, certainly, but it isn't going to be a great performer in a mustang. The intake and all accessories will fit the old engine, so that won't be a problem. I just think you'd be happier with a car EFI setup.

The serpentine water pump is reverse rotation, not reverse flow. The water still goes to the block first, then through the heads to the thermostat and to the radiator; the water pump just turns in the opposite direction.

Yes, the SEFI from a Mustang or Mark VII will run better. Brain fart on the reverse flow thing, I guess I nees a nap. Another bonus is that the car system looks better

The trucks were bank injection with a map sensor until 94. The cars were sequential injection with maf. All the truck stuff will bolt on just fine and reportedly the truck lower intake flows better than the car ones. My suggestion would be to find an EEC-IV computer from an 87-93 or so mustang with a manual tranny. try to get some or all of the wiring harness and the maf sensor. The wiring can be very daunting. Google ford fuel injection- there's a great site that will tell 99% of what you need to know to do the swap. Make sure you grab the frame mounted fuel pump from the truck, they are easily adapted to any application. It took me 4 days to do the swap with a port injected 300 six, ran into a few problems, but nothing major. Still haven't overcome the lack of a VSS sensor. If I had to do it over again I'd toss the ford computer and go with a megasquirt. Another thing- The ignition circuit through the ignition switch will not supply enough juice to run the EEC or the O2 sensors, you must install extra relays for this stuff or you'll kick yourself in the head wondering why it won't start. Good luck!

Average 250, do you have a mechanical speedometer? I wonder if the VSS from an 87-91 truck would work (the ones that attach to the speedo cable output from the transmission).
