I have been messing around with my predator settings and checking with fuel economy. Ran for 4 tanks with setting on 40 tow setting, averaged around 15mpg. Ran 4 tanks with 60 hp or their "econo setting, and got about the same. I switched to the 85 hp setting, and have jumped up to 18 with the same driving. I really do not like to run on this setting, but I stay out of it most of the time and it is ok, but if I get on it then it shifts kinda hard, and I modified parameters when I installed the tune to stock shift, but it still seems kind of hard when you get on it pretty hard. Wondering if anyone else has run their truck on this setting, and I pull a good bit, I hate to keep switching from 85 to tow every time I get ready to pull something, any danger in messing up the cps with all the switching around? thanks for any advise...
How are you determining your milage? If it's from the overhead lie-o-meter, you're not getting anything like that for true milage. Always hand-calculate your milage. The accuracy of the "overhead" is thrown-off considerably by a chip.
I never use the overhead to calculate mileage, thanks though for the replies. Rampage I believe that is what I am going to do. I tried the 100 hp setting once, i did not like that, it just seems like it is too much on my baby..
I just got my Predator tuner. I have only ran it on 60 so far. I get about the same mileage as stock. I am going to switch to the 85 this weekend though. I only drive it every few days so it will be awhile before i let you know what kind of mileage i got. I did the sonnax tricummulator kit and it made a world of difference with the tuner. No more slipping from 3rd to 4th.
TexanClint: Please describe the slipping problem and what it sounds like. I belive I have the same problem. I thought it was just the turbo making sucking sound when shifting from 3rd to 4th but I think it is something else. This happens also when I am on the 85hp or the 60 tune.
I started out a couple months ago with the 60HP tune and have towed with it several times. Yesturday I tried the 85hp and today I tried the 100hp tune, just playing around. I noticed that the 60hp seems to have more grunt on the low end than the other two. And I could swear that the 85 and 100 tunes shift harder. To me the truck seems to run alot better on the 60hp tune. Has anyone noticed this? Or am I just bias because I've been running the 60hp tune for a few months?
I used to run the 60 also, but the 85 does seem to shift harder. I am getting a lot better mileage on the 85 though, so I will stick with it. I pulled a car last night with no problems on the 85, I have gotten used to it now and I just do not have to get in the throttle like the 60. If I pull something heavy I will switch back to the 40 though I think just to be safe. I am getting 17 town and 21 highway. Hand calculation for those who are about to bust off.
I have tried the same as you and I also get better milage at the 85 hp setting by about 2-3 mpg hand calc. If you get on it it does shift harder and it seems to slip into gears but hard ?? seems to run better at 60 hp also. I have reset the shifting to stock several times but it still asks up when you get on it thought about contacting the manufacturer about the shifting but not sure if it is normal.
i run on the 85hp tune everyday... i don't tow with it on that setting, but i do plow using it... no probs... i got a tick over 18 mpg coming back from Buffalo NY on the last leg of my trip... that leg included the ride up and over Hogback mountain in Vermont.... as far as the shifts go... i run the sonnax kit on my tranny so the shifts are firm, quick, and smooth... with the exception of the t/c lockup wich is a little slushy... time for a new one i think..! anyway... mpg has been the best on that tune... as for the 100 hp tune... i have to agree... it is nice enough, but a little to wild for a daily driver... 85 is good... plenty of gettup and go if i want it, but i can also nurse her along nice and easy which i do most of the time... you don't have to give her much throtle to getting her going though...!
