Well I went ahead and put dual exhausts with turbo mufflers on my '72 302. They exit straight out the back and sound and look great although fairly quiet. As far a performance goes...I can't honestly say that there is much difference over the stock setup. When the truck was up on the hoist and before the new pipes were install I took a look and was shocked at how small the outlet from the right side manifold was...about 1 1/2" in diameter. Are there better manifolds, maybe from a 351 or something that would bolt up?
Sedric,
I thought we discussed this already?
Weren't you going with headers?
Get yourself a set of ,even, cheap headers with 2-1/2" collectors and you'll be good to go. If your losing all your flow at the manifold, the rest of the sytem can't benefit you. Headers can be as little as $98.
How much did you pay for your exhaust? Don't forget to add a heat shield for your starter.

You guys just wont give up, will you? Hey Sedrick spend another $200.00 and buy yourself some headers, put them suckers on and instantly that 302 will roar out like a 460. Sucking gas, smoking tires, Man what a ride. Be sure to put a 750 or 800 cfm carb on it too. :+

In the cool still quiet of night, you can hear chevies rusting away.
Funny, but I just got back from the parts store and they have some Hedman headers for under $200 Canadian. But then I've got to put in a cam to take full advantage of the headers. That could cost a bundle. Would it really make that much difference?
I'm starting to think that I should just wait until the 302 wears out then put in something like a 390.
Sorry Kingfisher...the duals cost me $400 Canadian ($250 US)...it was a nightmare in itself. I brought the truck into the muffler shop at 11 AM and by 2:00 PM they hadn't run any pipe yet. They spent all that time replacing 2 screwed up studs on the passenger side manifold. By 4:30 (they closed at 5:00) they were still working on it and they hadn't even started putting in the cross-over pipe so I took it away without the cross-over with the agreement that I would bring it in later and get it. So in truth there is no cross-over pipe yet.
Sedric,
You sound like a young man. There are plenty of opportunities in life to learn, and you've just survived one of them. Hang in there, you'll get this thing the way you want it, sooner or later. I bought my first ford truck in 1983, I still have it and a couple more to boot. It's still not the way I want it!
Good Luck, have Fun,
