Another Newbe
Just purchased a 1996 F150 XL 4X4 Supercab, 140,000 miles, 4.9L, 5-speed. (A 1994 Chevy 6.5 turbo diesel and the associated problems with their lame electronic diesel injection kind of turned me off on GM products.) Did a much needed complete tune-up this past weekend. The tranny fluid came out black, could hardly tell it was ATF! Going to run fresh Mercon for about a week then drain and refill with synthetic. OBDII serial data looks good, just trying to squeeze a few more MPG! Found this site and forums very informative, thanks.

Sounds like a nice truck (with a good combination drivetrain components!). Gotta love the 4.9L and M5OD combo
