Twice over the past month, I have tripped a P0478 code (Exhaust pressure control valve high circuit input). I have no idea what to do to fix it.
I also want to know if its safe to drive long distances with this happening. Can I damage the engine, or the turbo ?
0478 EPR Exhst press control valve high input Excessive back pressure - run mode Plugged sensor line, stuck butterfly, restricted exhaust
I'd say disconnect your EBPV(exhaust back pressure valve). Make sure it's fully open and you'll be fine. It's OK to drive it with this disconnected. Many people disconnect it just to get rid of the noise during engine warm up. Probably the tube from the front of the passenger side exhaust manifold going up to the top of the engine with the EBP (exhaust back pressure) sensor on top of it is plugged with soot, etc from the exhaust.
