I'd like to get rear captain's chairs for my Aero but someone told me the the doorside in-the-floor seat mount bracket is offset to the inside compared to the ones for the bench seats. This didn't sound right to me but I really don't know so I figured I'd ask here.... Anyone?
I have the catains chairs in my 2wd Aero and the benches in the 4wd, I have switched them around and they fit just fine. The 2wd is a 90 and the 4wd is a 91.
The captain's chair would fit fine in the middle row, except that the passenger side would require some "creative manipulation" for the seat belts to fit.
They can also be made to fit the rearmost row to replace the 3-seat bench, but that also require a slight modification. Nothing that would affect the structural integrity of the seats, and quite easy to make. If you want, email me and I'll send you pictures and explanation.
The captains chairs swap out with the bench from the middle row without any modifications. As stated in the earlier post, the wheel well trim prevents an installation into the third row brackets. I bought my Captains on eBay and they are 1993 vintage. They have integral seatbelts so it was a great retro for my 91. If your 'Star has shoulder belts in the back then you might want to limit your search for captains to the years after they stopped manuf the seat with the built in seatbelt.
Even with the wheel well trim, they can be easily made to fit the third row. On the passenger side, you would have to remove the right side buckle receptacle from the bench seat and install it on the right side of the captain chair. Once you have done that, it can be put in either the middle or the third row.
I have captain chairs in both middle and third rows now with full three-point seat belts.
For clarity, I just wanted to confirm that the floor brackets for my 2nd row bench are the same as what would be used for the captain's chairs. The owner of a van with quads told me that they weren't which struck me as odd because it would really drive up the production costs to have different floors for Aeros depending on seating choices. It now appears that they are the same floor brackets regardless of seating options. Thank you very much.
This would be for a '97 that has 3pts, now if only I could find some nice grey ones...

Yes the floor brackets are the same, the other owner is full of BS. You just need to move where the passenger side seat belt buckles, it buckles to the floor instead of the seat. Takes about five minutes to do.
Here is a Coppers pic of his Seat mod. I was hoping to see all 3 rows with captain chairs, but oh well. Definitely a different take, but Cool, just needs some flat black paint to make it look stock.
The seat covers are not real leather, but vinyl. I got them from E-bay for $15-20 a pair, including shipping. Just do a search on Aerostar seat cover. They fit really well though, and they do cover up all the food stains the kids inflicted.
I didn't install these seats in the third row because I have two Aerostars with different interior colors. One is grey and one is tan. So, they both have Captain seats in the middle row for now. I only install all three rows of Captain seats on long vacation trips. When I do, you'll be the first one to get a picture I did try fitting them into the third row of both vans and they did fit fine.

Also Copper, why don't you have any carpet in the second row?
As for el cheapo covers, I might have to do that, whenever I can find some bucket seats for the second row. At the rate the kids are fighting, I am looking at a third row bucket to keep them seperated.

I have carpet, but I just cover it all up with plastic to make cleaning easier. Want to trade kids? Two of yours for all four of mine

(cough) 3 Kids (cough) 10, 7, 6 months.
As for cleaning, I try my best with my extractor, but usually after one ride it is a mess. Even when I make them help, it does not matter. (slams head into wall.)
I swore when I looked at the picks, it looked like the steel floor that is under the carpet.

OK, I'll take the 10 and 7 years old, but you keep the 6 months old. As for the plastic, it only looks that way because it's dirty. They're just plastic sheets I got from Home Depot.
