Exclamation Royal Purple

I recently change my oil to royal purple from rottela and have noticed a little loud engine ,also check the oil deepstick and seems a little black. Its been 150 miles since the change. I have 60,000 on the clock. Is this normal on royal purple? has anyone used this oil with the same results .I change from rottela because the good reputation on royal purple everyone has given me .

it is because of the characteristics of the royal purple. its detergents in the oil work so well.

I didn't see which engine you have. I use 5W20 for my V10. I would imagine 15W40 is acceptable for a diesel but I don't have the owner's manual for a diesel.

I have changed four vehicles over to Royal Purple although they were all gasoline engines. I have a good friend running Royal Purple in his Ford Diesel. Royal Purple doesn't have detergent additives, the Polyalpha Olefin (PAO) which is the base material for Royal Purple cleans the engine due to its chemical structure. The oil that appears dirty after the first 500 miles is due to this cleaning action on the engine. Since it does clean the engine, I always change to Royal Purple by doing a complete oil and filter change. After 1000 miles, I change the filter and add a quart of oil. I do this to prevent the oil filter from plugging up from the deposits cleaned from the engine. After the first filter change, I go to a standard 3000 mile change where I change the filter and add a quart. After 12,000 miles I do a complete oil and filter change. From then on out, I change the filter every 3,000 miles and will go 12,000-15,000 between changes depending on the type of driving I do. My friend that has a Ford Diesel is up to 20,000 miles between changes although he is using an outside laboratory to test his oil. I also recommend a good high quality oil filter such as Wix. I recently bought some wix filters from one of this site's sponsors www.fleetfilter.com and actually received NAPA Gold filters when they were delivered. The price is excellent.

Royal Purple Fan

Okst1,
I have been using Royal Purple in my 7.3 PSD for over two years (100,000+ miles) No complaints. I have been following this pattern. Complete oil and filter change. 5000 miles later, I change the filter and add 1 quart. (I need to do that tomorrow) then 5000 miles after that, I do another complete oil and filter change. So far so good.

My engine is not louder. Back in April, the drain plug came out after I got the oil changed. I was on the road and pulled into a parking lot to go to a baseball game of my son's. As I was pulling into the lot, my truck quit. I tried to re-start it twice, and then I noticed the trail of oil behind and in front of me. I had to have it towed to the Ford store. They had to re-set something and everything is AOK. I will always believe that Ford engineering and Royal Purple had a lot to do with the motor having absolutely NO DAMAGE! I will use nothing else but Royal Purple.

Does Royal Purple make oil specifically for diesels, or do you just use the 15W40? I'd like to switch over to synthetic (run it in everything else).

I've been running Royal Purple, too. My 6.0 X seems to like it. The 15w40 hasn't been giving me any trouble --- not even in the winter.

That said, I liked Schaeffer better, but I can't get it easily here. I think the Schaeffer was quieter and gave a smoother start (subjective), but I can only order 50 gallon drums for anything approaching a normal price. Royal Purple has a distributor a few miles from my house.
