Hi guys, I have a question. I have a 99 sd p.stroke. It has the six speed manual transmission in it. For a while now it has been really rough or difficult to get it over to Reverse and Low. It kept happening so finally this weekend I dropped the whole thing to figure out something. I'm a little scared to crack into the transmission though to find the problem. Can I get some advice on what I should do. Should I just buy a reman. Should I send it to somebody to rebuild it for me or should I try and do this one by myself. If the latter is the choice can somebody email me some stuff on what i'm doin. Thanks guys
well my first thought would have been your clutch or a bent throwout arm.But you already drop it.Also look at the pilot bearing for wear, this all keeps the input shaft spining when it should slow to alow the syncro's to line up to shift.
But we have seen the shift fork glide pads wearout and not move far enough on the shift rails. This tranny is pretty massive and complicated for someone who's never done this before.
There was A ZF website that had a eploded veiw of your tranny somewhere around here .A good shop manual would have something also.
