I have an 02 F250 V10 auto. Since it has gotten a little cold around here (Seattle Area) recently I have had a strange howl from the transmission when cold. After I start and it will warm up a little (scrape the windows) I take off and for the first 1/2 mile to a mile it will sound like I have jet engine hooked up. Then the transmission will feel like it has shifted again and the sound is gone. From then on it has no problem. Anyone have anything similar happen? Is it a TC not locking up? StevenG
i remember last year when it was real cold i would get a loud howl as you described. although i cant recall if it stopped when the tranny shifted. i don't have a clue to what it is and i never looked into it. i'm just assuring you that your not the only one. it hasnt done it this year and we've had some cold days in MA.
The three super duties I've had have all done that. (two v-10, current one is a psd) Don't know what it is but it sure sounds tough doesnt it? I've also noticed my diesel does it sometimes when its really heavily loaded too.
I have a 99 5.4. The fluid in the transmission and the filter were replaced at 115,000 miles. Since i've used a block heater, I haven't noticed a loud noise from the transmission on cold days
It's been single digits here last two mornings, first day I heard that same noise scared the **** out of me since I just bought mine used. I let it warm-up a bit this morning and no noise. Don't know what it is, but I figure a little wasted gas is better than listening to that eeerie noise!
