where to start
If you want to start with an intake that is fine. You dont have to buy an aftermarket intake kit, you can make your own for A LOT cheaper. I spent about $30 on mine. Do a search for "6637 mod". It is a HUGE paper element filter (7-8" in diameter) with a lot of surface area so that turbo can breathe. You can get it from fleetfilter for $18 plus s/h. I have pictures of it in my gallery. Click on my name and its in the Mod Gallery. I give explenations of what I did. If you want to pay $200+ for an aftermarket there are many sponsors on here such as Black Cloud Diesel.
While you are doing that, you can do the CCV (crank case ventilation) mod. Have you noticed black gunk all over your intake boots and engine? Well thats is from the ccv. On the driver side valve cover, there is a black plastic dog house with a short tube that goes to the intake. That allows an oily mist to go into your turbo and through your intake tubes causing that nasty gunky mess. Just buy some 3/4" heat resistant tubing, turn the doghouse the other way so it exits towards the rear, and run your tubing out to the back of your truck.
Other than those, a good start is exhaust. 4" turbo-back system will usually start around $400 or you can do 5" or even stacks!
After that gauges: boost, pyrometer(measures pre turbo EGTs -exhaust gas temperatures) and tranny temp are good ones to start out with.
Now move on up to some REAL horsepower and get you a custom burnt chip from dp-tuner or TS Performance. But before that, since you have an auto, get the Sonnax Valve Kit to help with shifting.
I think that will get you started and max out a credit card for you and let you get bit by the mod bug pretty good!
