im rebuilding my 351m and i got a towing/rv cam in my kit and a stock timming chain.will i benifit on getting a timming chain that i can advance and retard the timing and is a roller (benifit is getting more power). ive heard that 0* is a good setting for tourque. my main consern is having to adjust the distributer or will i be fine with the stock setting on the distributor. also there wil be a edelbrock performer and 1406 on the motor.
Get a good aftermarket double roller with 3 keyways. Degree the cam and set it to 0 deg. In order to get the most performance out of your motor you should seriously consider tailoring the advance curve in the distributor.

ok, should the motor run with out any problems like detination so i can get the cam and motor broken in.
Assuming you haven't changed anything else other than what you have mentioned, detonation or ping should not be an issue. Changing to the different timing set won't affect when the spark fires, that is done at the distributor.
On most stock & aftermarket timing sets only the crank sprocket has multiple keyways. Cloyes makes a timing set that has an adjustable cam sprocket for very fine adjustments.
