I was having a bad day the other day with My F100, DOn't get me wrong i Love my Truck. But between the flat tireand the failing fuel pump I was in no mood to here the ford dealer tell me that my model truck no longer even lists on Microfisch.
No to the hard part I have a fuel tank sensor that has gon bad, does any body got a recomendation on what I can replace it with. the tank is in the cab and and it is a 69 F100, any help will do. And NAPA is definantly not the answer. they couldn't find there way out of a portaJohn.
Go to an autoparts store that sells aftermarket gauges. I got a universal fuel sending unit made by Sunpro that I put in an old CJ7 I used to have. I had to do some rigging to get it in there, but if I remember right it looked like a direct replacement for a Ford with the tank behind the seat. The float is made with an adjustable arm. You just measure the depth of the tank and a chart that comes with the sending unit tells you how to put the arm together. I don't know if it will work with the factory gas gauge, but it would be worth a try. If it doesn't work, you can always put a gauge under the dash. Better than running out of gas!

Have you removed the sending unit to determine if it is the resisor section or the float? The floats are almost paper-thin and often get a pinhole leak. When they do, the unit doesm't work, obviously. You can usually repair a leak with a good soldering iron (45watt) and non-rosin solder (use flux).
The resistor section should read from around 75-79 ohms (empty tank) to zero (full tank) as you move the float arm. If it is the resistor section, you're still in luck. I have a couple that still work.
If you need the resistor section, let me know where to send it and I'll give you one just to get the smile back on your face. Please do not take it if you don't need it; others have the same problem and can use the unit.
