I have noticed this fall as the weather got cold the fast idle feature on my o2 7.3 doesn't seem to be working.
It used to sound like a plane was readying for takeoff but now it occassionally revs around 900 r's in the morning before I leave.
I did switch to 5w40 synthetic a month ago but I doubt that has anything to do with it.
The exhaust valve seems to be working as I can hear the hiss and feel the restriction on the cold mornings.
Any ideas? Is there a temp sensor for the high idle> A fuse?
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks.
Scott
Does your parking brake indicator still work?
Mine will refuse to fast idle if the ECU thinks the parking brake is not set. I found that out one day when I dislodged the wire from the switch without realizing it.
I noticed that with my truck unless the emergency brake dash light is activated it won't go into high idle. ( my swich is intermitted) Might be something to for you to check out.

I noticed that too the other day. My parking brake light works sometimes...and other times it dont. And high idle is affected. What is causing the light to be intermittent?

Likely cause is a bad switch. The switch is located right under the dash by the e-brake pedal. It is depressed when the brake is off and released when the brake is on. It might be a good idea check the wire terminal on the switch for a good connection before you purchase a new switch.
I rarely use the parking brake overnight at home since I have a stick and I usually park on a fairly level surface.
I never noticed a relationship between the fast idle and having the e-brake on.
I'll have to try setting the brake and see what happens.

On a manual transmission truck the parking brake has to be applied for the high idle to work. The outside air temp also has to be below 40f. and the oil temp below 150f.
This is kind of the opposite, but how does one disable this? I think I heard somewhere you can just cut that temp sensor off at the loom but that seems like it would light the SES. Is this true? Just makes me cringe to hear that thing rattle when it takes off in the cold weather.
