The other day I noticed my overdrive wouldn't disengage while driving down the road. After some investigation I found out overdrive will disengage in any gear except drive, functions fine in any other gear. Just wont turn on or off while in drive. Any ideas what could be wrong? Thanks for the help.
Sorry, I should have been more specific. I meant the button at the end of the shift lever. It won't turn off overdrive while in Drive, if I shift to any gear other than Drive it works fine.
well in any other gear your will never enter into o/d anyway. also if you select 2nd you will always be in 2nd the tranny won't shift to second from first like in some gm trannies. t
The wire to the button is broken. Remove the plastic cover from the steering column and you should find a broken wire near where it enters the shifter. The insulation may be fine, but the wire inside is not.
I've got the same problem and tried taking the plastic housing off. Got the 3 screws out but looks like igition switch is blocking. Is it just the 3 screws that need to be taken out? Thanks
can you put it in 2nd then take off od then switch to D?
Well, I tried that and a couple of other things and it looks like an intermittent in the wiring that's in the column housing. Since I wasn't able to get the upper housing off, I was able to use my finger to move the wires (they appear to have shrink tubing or something like that around them). So what I found is that if I push the wires towards the front of the truck, the OD lite works in P, R, N, D (only ignition on); I also found that it will work if I push the shift level towards the front of the truck.
So I'm back to trying to figure out how to get the upper column housing off. I took a couple of pics this morning and they are in my gallery.
didn't think anyone else would have this same problem. From the info you all posted i'm going to go have a look at mine and see if that same wire is busted. I will post later on my status. Thanks
