I own a 1988 F-150, 2wd, w/300 striaght 6.Approx 165K and 5sp od trans. Truck has been fairly wel maintained and runs good.
Recently at stop signs/lights, my "Check Engine" light has begun to flicker. So I went to "Autozone" where they ran a free code check on it. The results say that the problem is either the EGR valve or Sensor.
I am vaguely familiar w/what an EGR valve is, and it is the cheaper fix to try. Where is it located on my engine, and any replacement advice appreciated. Thanks
it's been a while since i had my 300, so i don't quite remember where the EGR valve is located. look along you intake manifold for an assembly that has a pipe about 1" in diameter running out of it. that pipe should go back into the exhaust system somewhere. when you DO find it, however, one suggestion for helping with the removal is to spray the pipe connection down with a good amount of PB Blaster or other penetrating catalyst days before you do the job. that tube will be rusted on there nice and tight, but a few douses of PB Blaster a couple of times before the job should make life a little easier!
