Usually when we park my truck we put it in gear since it has no E brake, and I went out today to move it and it is stuck in first, the shifter will move but its still in gear, it wont move to other gears but will go to the neutral position, The truck use to be on the column but its now a floor shift and its linkage, we checked out the linkage and didnt find anythnig wrong. Anyone have any tips on whats wrong. I went out and bought a new clutch last night becaue it sounded like the throwout bearing was going out so I decided to do it all, could the bearing completelly went out or does it have something to do with it, because when you press the clutch down it made like a whining noise. Thanks
From what you say, the throwout bearing should be replaced but that would not cause the problem of being stuck in gear. Presumably there is a pin or bolt sheared where the fork is held to the rail. (inside the trans.) Not knowing what trans you have....... this is a guess.
All I know is that its a 3 speed, the shifter was a column but we put in a floor shifter, that was about 5 years ago. Is there a number on the tranny I can find to let you know the type I have?
Hopefully one of the others on this site can identify the trans from that info. But it sounds to me like you will have to at least pull the cover. Is it a side loader or a top loader? Or does it have levers on the side?
I looked and couldnt find any numbers, but the linkage for the shifter bolts on the side of the tranny, so I am guessing it the one with the levers on the side. If anyone can tell me where to look I can go out and look.
