I have an 05 f-250 4x4. Is it bad for the hubs if you keep them locked when not in 4x4? After a snow storm when the highways and streets are clear I am in 4x2 with the hubs locked doing 65-70mph. I need to go into 4x4 to get into and out of parking spots so I leave the hubs locked to avoid geting in and out of the truck while parking. Is this going to damage anything? What is the right thing to do?
The only thing you need to watch is binding the u-joints in tight turns. While the hubs are locked, you are turning all the components in the front end. This does not cause damage and is actually good to do once a month to keep the front components lubed. There is no power from the t-case going to the front end, your tires are turning everything. What you do have to watch for is binding the u-joints though. If you going to be doing a lot of tight turns, I would say to unlock them.
As stated by bfr250sd that is correct wear is happening in the axle u-joints when tight turns are done.
But if you do this alot ,a little preventive maitenance should be done inside the hub area.you need to lubricate the needle bearings that support the axle stub.
When making tight turns the stress is on these needle bearings and the u-joint.

I run my hubs in all winter and was wondering what it takes to lube the bearings.
