I recently did my plugs in my V10, at 22K miles, 5 years-old.
Even though they looked fine, and there were no obvious problems like water in the hole, they did get dirt in them.
It DOES run much better now. More low-end torque (as if there wasn't enough already).
So, changing the plugs can certainly change things for the better.
A fuel filter change a few months ago made a big difference too, and a MAF cleaning made even more power.
If you have a K&N, chances are your MAF sensor is dirty. I used only paper filters for 22K miles and there was enough dirt built up on the MAF to be seen, and made a difference after cleaning.
With a dirty MAF, you'll run lean, which of course means less power.
Good luck with it, and of course, let us know how it works out!
Thanks for the information. I will check out the website and look into the sct tuner. It's great to have another option - especially one that may work better for my truck than Hypertech or Superchip.
I appreciate the information on the plugs and the MAF sensor. The truck is in for service today (fuel filter, brake system flush, cooling flush), and I will ask about the MAF sensor.
Ford won't clean the MAF, if that's where you brought it - once it's "contaminated" they replace it. Which is a huge waste of money.
One other thing, K&N air filters are best NOT cleaned regularly. Unless they are coated in mud, any dirt that gets on it just increases it's filtering ability (no K&N rants, please!). I've cleaned them when they get really black with crud, but it's not on my list of "things to clean" during tuneup/oil-changes.
I've cleaned my MAF twice now with throttle body cleaner, and it made no difference. Truck still seems to be running lean I think (causing detonation at higher rpms even without a load). I believe my truck has the original plugs (w/49k miles). I am running an Airaid cold air intake (same thing as a K&N basically). Haven't cleaned it yet (since it doesn't even look dirty).

I don't want to step on any toes, but could you please keep your continuing situation out of threads that are not related to your pinging? This thread is directly related to towing performance and is NOT about pinging.
art just told you. down here in v10 land we do not step on toes, steel threads. change the subject and all act like bothers helping each other out with what we know and can help you preform and on down the line. O.K.?
