I really need help finding out what is wrong with my truck. It has happened a couple times to me. When i am driving normally all of a sudden its like i dont even have my foot on the gas, it just gradually slows down, it doesnt shut off, its just like i took my foot off the pedal suddenly. Today it happend for a little while and i went from about 60 all the way down to 45 before everything kicked back in. I dont know what to look for. At first i thought fuel pump, but i thought it would totally shut off if that was it. sometimes it happens for not as long, kind of like a stumble, but today was the worst and i dont want to drive it anymore until i get it fixed. I tried changing the fuel filter but that didnt really help anything. Would the throttle position sensor have anything to do with it? any help is appreciated.
I would pull your computers codes first, esp if the check engine light comes on when its acting up. Visit www.fordfuelinjection.com to learn how to do it with nothing more than a paperclip or see if your local parts store will pull them for free or they probably have a code reader you could buy for about $30.
Well the check engine light doesnt come on but i will check if there are any codes in it. I was thinking maybe i had some water or dirt in the gas tank so i am going to put a couple cans of sea foam in the gas.
There could be codes stored without the check engine light coming on. If it feels like the engine completely died, I would suspect fuel pump. My high pressure pump died and did the same thing a couple of times. It would cut out while I was at speed, and by the time I got to the right lane, it kicked back in. I would suspect the frame mounted high pressure pump, but do check codes first.
I will try and check the codes tomorrow. I had the same problem for awhile last year but after i changed the fuel filter it went away. I put some stuff in the gas tank hoping that maybe there is water in the tank or something. Hopefully that helps. thanks for the replies.
