Cool Problems

Glad i found this forum newbie here

Ok , well i have a few problems that just started with my 99 explorer sport

#!-On our way home in a snow storm we lost HEAT , been reading the forums ,cause might be air lock ????? , the blower comes on but it makes like a loud noise coming from the dash, not your normal heater noise .Also one can feel a bit of heat very little if that in the defrost position.

#2- also today the washer quit working but the rear one still works

also been reading there is a seperate front washer relay , located around passenger headlamp.??????

#3 this has been going on for a while now lol the temp guage is stuck on not working . ther is a sensor different from the thermostat for the temp guage ?????

#4 fuel guage indicator is stuck on empty also , so i make sure i always got a full tank , and I use the trip indicator for mileage lol
I usually run about 350 km before i fill up , because last winter i went 475km and ran out of gas also in the winter time

just my opinion , today i filled up with #1 gas for the price of regular

, sure noticed the difference after 100mi on the 35w , and when i gas up again around the 300 km mark there was a bout 2 gallons difference in fill ups. so i will be monitoring that

Starting to act like a redneck

Thankyou

1. I think you might be saying there's little or no air coming out of the vents. Is what little air that does come out hot? If so, there's a delivery problem...maybe fan motor jammed. In my 2000, by dropping the glove box door, you can see the fan motor.
If that's OK, then I suspect a diverter door or a blend door problem. One decides where to send the air, the other mixes cold air with heated air.

3. There's a coolant temp sensor for the gauge, as well as a sensor that talks to the computer. There's also the thermostat that works on it's own.

The fuel gauge on empty probably is a fuel tank sending unit problem....Fords are notorious for it.
Oh, and don't be hateful.

Wiper problems might be linked to a bad multifuction switch, which appear to be unreliable on these cars. It's about a $60 part and a half-hour worth of work.

Cool

Well I took the explorer into the shop

The heating problem was due to a thermostat , so far I have heat now

2nd problem they fixed was the washer relay , guess what , i took the truck today the washer worked only once , now it doesn't work .

for the temp guage not working they said it might be a sending unit problem , well i told them to change it then seeing the part was $40.00 , guess what not the problem , they said I would need a new guage , guage cost $174 + 5 hrs labour to change it , I think I'll do without the guage .

So it looks like the explorer be back in the shop come Monday am to try to solve this washer problem .

Geee's to change a guage in the shop be about a $1000.00 bill

Well, based on your description of the heating problem, a new thermostat would not have fixed it. A thermostat has nothing to do with loud noises from the dash area/blower.
Glad you got it fixed though..
Gauges are rarely the problem, especially with a late model vehicle.
Auto zone sells sending units for probably less than $15 and is a simple unscrew, screw-in with a pair of large pliers.
