Dtc Spy Code From Ford

Just read in another forum about a new "DTC" code from Ford coded u0407 that's supposed to allow tech's to know if there's been a performance code stored in your PCM. I also read that it's for 05/06 trucks as the earlier models don't have the capability OR Ford is not interested in these models anymore as they are getting on in age/mileage by now. Any Tech's than can chime in on this???? Matt???

Its is untrue, Ford does not have any such thing on their trucks YET.
There is speculation that the MIGHT be able to rig something like this up on the new SD's but nothing for the pre - '07

That is what I have read as well. Maybe '07.

Besides, if Ford or a tech wants to know bad enough, they can do it now. Close inspection of the pistons will tell the tale.

Not sure if they would LIE in the owners manual but mine says they do store data about accidents, etc. as well as modifications and MAY void your warranty....

I thought the information stored was for the last few minutes the truck was running before the computer was scaned. Like just before an accdent, not since the last flash?

My manual says it does NOT get erased even if you re-install the stock tune. Some people here say it is BS and propaganda and these computers are not that smart, others say it is possible.

I still think if you install a tune and it is obvious it caused a problem Ford should not have to warranty the repair. It is not fair for everyone to pay for a few to have fun.

That being said I will probably get a tuner for my '06 but won't run the crap out of the truck. I just like the improved shifting, throttle response and towing improvements they give. If I break something obviously due to the mod and not a known defect then I will pay for it.

I think this is a fine, but idealistic approach. Ford could maintain that most any problem was caused by the tuner and void the entire power train warranty. Now if a rod breaks, Ford could easily say it was cause by the extra power of a tuner, but if several injectors go bad (bad lot, water in the fuel, etc . Ford could claim their failure was caused by the tuner. Then the owner would be faced with a bill of several thousand dollars and no warranty for the remaining life of the truck. The only recourse would by to take them to court. It might cost less to buy a new truck!!

If you type a ':' and a ')' next to each other the system will insert a smiley face

That's the real issue PeteJa, there is a LOT of gray area and it is a gamble to make any modification - not just tuners. A lot of mixed results by many people have been posted here and many of them have to do with the mood of the dealer they take it to.

Yes, there are 2 codes that are set.

"U" codes are UBP network codes used by Ford, "B" codes are module-specific. These, like the rest, are cleared when the PROM is rewritten and the KAM is cleared.

Its about as threatening as the p1000 code. Just don't be stupid and leave the tuner in the truck!
