I just bought my truck 3 weeks ago and I've never owned a diesel. The water in fuel filter light turned on yesterday and I'm not too sure what to do about it other than take it to a shop. Anybody got any ideas?
I have had my water in fuel light come on frequently over the past year. I believe that the sensor is bad and needs to be replaced. I have had my diesel for almost 5 years now and I change my fuel filter 3 times a year and I drain the bowl frequently. I drain the bowl and inspect the fluid and it appears to be free of water. Is the sensor hard to replace or expensive. Can this affect my fuel mileage. I haven't gotten more that 11 to 13 miles per gallon for about 4 years now. I have used the additives and tried many ideas from this site. Does anyone have any suggestions??

Welcome to FTE.
What are you driving? I get about the same mileage with my '99 F-550.
